Custom Hosting Services, IBM Canada – 2008 to 2015

Senior IT Architect

Worked closely as part of the Senior Team to manage a hosting business of 180 applications on 800 servers in 5 data centres. Supported a consistently profitable portfolio with a total contract value of $110M for a variety of internal IBM clients such as Express Portal, Global Solutions Architecture Repository (GSAR), World Wide Events (WWE), Edge Information Warehouse (EIW) and World Community Grid, as well as commercial clients like BMO, CIBC, Cummins, The Co-operators and WSIB.

• Led a team of 20+ Architects globally and governed end to end technical hosting solutions, working with clients and the delivery teams from the engagement phase through to production, resulting in a profitable portfolio.

• Guided team to effectively gather, clarify and validate solution requirements, build the solutions, and ultimately obtain sign-off on the solutions. Reviewed architecture and led the delivery teams ensuring timely builds, implementation, configuration and security compliance to our global security standards: ITCS104 and GSD331.

• Developed common, consistent deliverables for transition projects including Solution Design Documents, Architecture Diagrams, Network Diagrams, Implementation documentation and cutover plans, ensuring standard deliverables across projects on the accounts and alignment with industry standards like TOGAF.

• Provided guidance and direction to the other Architects, specifically focused on transforming the business using automation, virtualization, driving changes in process, technology and standards and generated annual profits of up to $4M and cost savings of $2M as a result.

• Influenced the team to adapt behaviors and processes that strengthened partnerships with clients, solving challenges that surfaced as a result of corporate change.

• Created Intellectual Capital in the team room, supporting knowledge sharing.

• Resolved technical issues and provided thought leadership to a team of over 200 service delivery professionals from 10 different countries (Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, India, Mexico, Philippines, Poland and United States) resulting in projects and changes being delivered successfully and on time and in turn very satisfied clients.

Common Development and Test Centre, IBM Canada – 2003 to 2008

Technical Lead and Architect

Lead Architect for CDT Release Projects, which involved technical decision making and co-ordination of major upgrades to Operating Systems and software on servers in the CDT. Planned the technical scope, provision, co-ordinate and test.  Reviewed install documents, liaised with other global architects as issues were discovered and worked them to resolution. Assisted with test plans, documented upgrade sequence.

• 100% successful upgrades during my tenure and no failed changes.

• Chaired weekly Capacity Planning and Performance Monitoring calls, ensuring the overall environment could grow as new clients boarded and that applications responded within service level agreements.

• Automated build & upgrade process for 300+ servers, automated ID password resets and developed probe and monitoring tools to page out when there were issues, reducing costs to build and maintain substantially.

• Created Intellectual Capital for build requirements supporting knowledge sharing.

• Tested, debugged and evaluated new software before deployment, ensuring no failed changes.

• Educated teammates on complex application issues that Level 2 Subject Matter Experts could not solve.

• Cross-Teamed with global technical architects, resulting in best practice adherence across the company

Portals, Content Management and e-Commerce, IBM Canada – 2002 to 2003

Solutions Consultant

Demonstrated consulting prowess assisting State Farm in the evaluation of software packages. Reviewing product specifications and other vendor material, identifying gaps and fit against functional and non-functional requirements and gathering costs for inclusion in the cost model.

• By working closely with business users and vendors, was instrumental in gaining the client’s approval and buy-in to move ahead with the proposed solution to the multi-million dollar implementation phase of the project.
